AUBURN, Mass. - Fire departments across Massachusetts are reminding people open burning is not allowed, this as crews remain busy battling brush fires.

Gov. Maura Healey echoed the call Monday asking residents to protect their communities and not partake in any outdoor activity which could contribute to brush and wildland fires.

The Auburn Fire Department said this weekend they responded to eight outside fires caused by burning leaves, trash, and building debris.

The warm, dry weather has elevated fire concerns and Deputy Chief Glenn Johnson is asking people to heed the warnings.

"In the Town of Auburn, we've issued out to the public no burning at all” said Johnson. “No campfires. No chimenea fires. No burning brush. Any fireplace, pellet stoves, any of that ash, if you just go dump it outside, the ground is extremely dry, therefore, it could catch to make a fire catches easier."

As of Sunday night, 87 brush and wildland fires had been reported across the state in the last week, burning close to 500 acres.
