WORCESTER, Mass. — The St. Paul field hockey team is getting ready for their first round state playoff game at Maynard on Friday, Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m.

The Knights are a very young team with only three seniors, on a team that plays seventh- and eighth-graders routinely.

The seniors, all captains, have enjoyed their role of teacher, mentor and friend.

"The season's gone pretty well, we have a young team, there's only three of us captains," said captain Bella Mara. "We had big roles this year because we really had to help our coaches. Because we have a lot of young kids, and a lot of them who had never played before or it's their second year playing. So we really had to help coach them in a way, but really be their role models and just show them right versus wrong. And also how to be a leader in the younger grades."

"A lot of the girls, they look up to us," said captain Adriana Peschiera. "Something we've all learned to do as a team is just trust each other."

St. Paul is 9-4-3 on the season.
