What You Need To Know

  • The new Amazon facility at the site of the former Greendale Mall in Worcester opened on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024

  • The new Worcester delivery station is coded as DTB4 and serves as a "last-mile facility", or the final stop before an item is delivered to the customer who ordered it

  • The 121,000-square-foot facility has more than 125 full-time employees and sends items out to all of Worcester, areas north and south of the city and as far west as Chicopee

Amazon has named the new delivery station in Worcester DTB4.

“DTB4 is a 121,000 square foot facility that processes up to 84,000 shipments currently at a steady state operating around the 60,000 mark," Katie Tokles said. "We currently have over 120 associates supporting us as well as 400 drivers.”

Tokles and manager Mike Cantelli led the tour through Amazon’s new Worcester site which specializes as a last-mile facility. Since opening on Oct. 16 every item comes from larger fulfillment and sortation centers, gets loaded into delivery vehicles and makes its way to the final destination.

“I think overall it's a win-win,” Rep. Jim O’Day said.

O’Day joined the tour and said, that while the Greendale Mall served a purpose during its time, he believes the new delivery station will benefit both local Amazon customers and potential employees.

“Certainly we've learned an awful lot about the process here, certainly for this last mile shop here for Amazon," O’Day said. "To learn about the number of employees that are going to be here, to learn about just their willingness to be a real strong community partner, I think is really important.”

“One thing that we're very proud of is a lot of our associates and managers are homegrown in the city of Worcester," Tokles said. "I myself am from the city of Worcester and over our 120 associates that we employ inside this building come from the city.”

Amazon said when they closed the previous Worcester facility on Goddard Memorial Drive all of the employees working there stayed with the company and transferred to another location. Now 80 of them work in the new Worcester building.

Jonathan Greeley heads Amazon’s economic development in New England and said this year has been big for the company in the region.

“To have this site operating again, employing people, 100 people every single day here, working hard to deliver for customers in the area, it's pretty exciting," Greeley said. "So, to kind of take a site that had been pretty quiet for a number of years and bring it back to life and see it be this busy and kind of full of excitement, thinking about the holiday season, we're really excited about it.”

Greeley said while they’re celebrating the opening of new facilities in Worcester and Uxbridge, a new distribution center in Charlton will also be launching in the coming weeks.
