BOSTON - It’s less than a month until Election Day, and Massachusetts’ top election official is urging voters to make their plan to vote before the day comes. Election Day is inching closer and early in-person voting is opening in less than two weeks, so now is the time, according to Secretary of the Commonwealth Bill Galvin, to make sure you have a plan to vote.
What You Need To Know
- Early in-person voting is opening in less than two weeks
- Registered voters receive a letter offering the opportunity to vote by mail, an effort to make the process more accessible and encouraging more voters to participate
- In addition to the mail-in ballot options, cities and towns are offering early in-person voting again
- Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024
Secretary Galvin is touting outreach from his office as one reason the state’s voting numbers have climbed in recent years. Registered voters receive a letter offering the opportunity to vote by mail, an effort to make the process more accessible and encouraging more voters to participate.
“Right now, ballots are being mailed out to voters who request them,” said Galvin. “A significant number, probably well over a million. We also have an that they can still request them if they want to.”
In addition to the mail-in ballot options, cities and towns are offering early in-person voting again.
“We also have early in-person voting beginning on the 19th of October for two weeks. That gives people the opportunity to vote ahead of the election in person, casting their ballot right then and there,” said Galvin. “They don't have to do anything else.”
Massachusetts does not allow same-day voter registration so if you’re not registered Galvin says you have some work to do and a deadline to make sure you do it.
“You might want to check and make sure you're eligible, especially if you've moved," he said. "[The] last date of fix that is Oct. 26. Do it now. Make sure you're all set.”
