WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester Police responded to reports of gunfire at a home in the area of Heroult Road just after two in the afternoon on Wednesday. A gunshot victim was found and taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A Massachusetts State Police trooper later approached a man they described as suspicious, who would then shoot at the officer and flee the scene. Police were then dispatched to part of I-190 for reports of a man running on the highway, pointing a gun at drivers and trying to carjack people.
Police pursued the suspect and said he then turned the gun on himself. Police believe the man was the shooter in the Heroult Road incident. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police identified the victim of the Heroult Road as Yubar Perez, 40, of Worcester. They also identified the suspect/gunman as Felix Rivera, 41, of Worcester.
Police say there is no danger to the public, and are encouraging anyone with information to contact the Worcester Police Department. They're also asking anyone with evidence, such as video, to submit it at worcesterma.evidence.com.
