LANESBOROUGH, Mass. – Lanesborough Police have free gun locks available for the community thanks to a donation from Project Child Safe.

Massachusetts state law says a gun must be secured in a locked container or a lock device if it’s not in the immediate possession of a gun owner.

The use of the devices can help keep people safe if around a firearm.

“All these things help our residents and the community be in compliance with state laws. Not only that but safety, especially among children, and gun safety is paramount,” said Lanesborough Police Chief Robert Derksen.

Anyone can pick up a gun lock in the Lanesborough police station’s lobby, which is open 24 hours a day at 545 S. Main St.

The lobby also has a medication drop box from MED-Project USA for anyone to dispose of unwanted medications.
