WORCESTER, Mass. — The City of Worcester will be hosting walk audits along some of its most dangerous roadways in an effort to address what city leaders call "traffic violence."

People will be able to meet with urban design experts to identify issues with the roads in their neighborhoods.

Discussions will help the city identify priority solutions, which will be recommended as part of the Vision Zero Safety Action Plan process.

"When we talk to people, they've expressed concerns about crossing the road. They've also expressed concerns about dangerous intersections for drivers who end up getting in a lot of accidents," said Betsy Goodrich, planning manager, City of Worcester Department of Transportation and Mobility. "There are a wide variety of things people talk about that are very concerning. Vision Zero, the premise behind it, is that deaths and serious injuries are unacceptable. We know that humans make mistakes, but we're also very vulnerable. And so, we have to create a system in order to be proactive and redundant and give everybody responsibility for making this happen."

The audits will take place Sept. 9 and Sept. 12 on Belmont, Lincoln and Cambridge streets, as well as Park Avenue.
