WORCESTER, Mass. — A new security checkpoint is now open at the Worcester Regional Airport and the airport said it comes at a time where they're seeing an increase in passengers.
The new checkpoint will help to increase efficiency of the check-in process, while also clearing up more waiting space in the terminal for passengers.
TSA said on their busiest days, they're screening more than 600 people a day at the airport and the new checkpoint includes two security screen lanes which will help speed things up for passengers.
"Any time we open a new checkpoint or a new security screening area, it's always a big deal because one of the things that happens when we open these new lanes is they're more modern and they're also larger, so we're able to accommodate more passengers,” said Dan Velez, spokesperson for TSA New England. “So, that means our throughput can get through a little bit quicker.”
The airport said in the last fiscal year they've had 18% more passengers flying, which is almost 230,000 people a year flying out of Worcester.
