PITTSFIELD, Mass. — As students around the state start thinking about heading back to school, Berkshire Dream Center is hosting their 11th annual backpack giveaway.

The Dream Center in Pittsfield has 500 different backpacks to hand out with supplies inside like notebooks, pencils, paper and more. The backpacks will be given to kids in K-12 grade.

The event will include free food and fun with a guest appearance from the mayor taking part in a dunk tank. All are welcome to attend, but kids have to be present for a backpack. There will be parking available at the Morningside Community School.

“It’s just going to be a nice community event to help bring up the neighborhood and let people know that back to school is exciting and to make sure the kids are off with everything they need,” said Katelynn Minor, the executive director of the Berkshire Dream Center.

The free event is Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Tyler Street will be closed from Burbank Street to Glenwood Avenue during the event.
