WORCESTER, Mass. - After two decades of celebrating creativity, stART on the Street will host its final event this September.
A group of artists founded stART on the Street in 2002 and it's now known as Central Massachusetts' largest arts, music, cultural and performance festival.
The one-day event draws thousands of visitors to Park Avenue in Worcester and supports more than 250 artists.
Organizers said the challenge of recruiting volunteers and the substantial cost of hosting the event were factors leading to the decision.
"We were starting to find other focus in our lives and people are having kids and people are moving on and finding new people to come in hasn’t been necessarily easy,” said co-founder Tina Zlody. “And when we looked at our legacy, we thought we’ve done great things. We’re so happy with how everything has turned out and 20 years seems to be the perfect time to say thank you and goodbye. We are so proud of what we've done and we don't have any regrets and we just hope people come and have a good time and have the memories of what we did for the last 20 years."
The final stART on the Street also marks its 20th anniversary.
It will take place Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m..
Co-founder Tina Zlody plans to offer consulting services in event planning and management, while continuing her directorship at the Worcester Public Market’s Market Pantry Store. Co-founder Stacy Lord and co-director Laura Marotta are opening the "Creative Hub Worcester Community Arts Center" at 2 Iconic Ave in Worcester this fall.
