SPENCER, Mass. - For 74 years, the Worcester County 4-H Fair has been a staple celebration in the region.

4-H is a national positive youth development organization in each state for children ages five to 18, with a focus of learning with hands-on experience. This weekend at the Spencer Fairgrounds will feature livestock shows, projects put on by local youth, and a number of exhibits.

Students at the program can participate in a number of fields like robotics, food, community service and many more.

"Yeah, I learned a lot," said participant Remington Card. "Something I recently learned was this is like a random fact - you're supposed to brush four words on your cow. And I recently learned how different showing dairy cattle and beef cattle are."

"Very good experience because I love how like everybody for instance just gets together and with you meet new people," said participant William Buffum. "And that's basically what I like about 4-H."

"I hope that the kids have fun and forge friendships and learning to make the best, as our motto is, learning to make the best better," added fair chairman Martin Shaw.

Massachusetts 4-H is an extension of UMass Amherst's programming. They say they reach more than 27,000 youth in the state and the program reaches 6,000,000 across the country collectively.
