PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Pecks Road bridge has been closed until further notice.
The bridge had been a one-lane road since 2019 after an inspection found weakened support beam structures. Now, following an inspection and report Monday, MassDOT asked the city to shut it down completely due to more deterioration found.
Ricardo Morales with the city said the closure could speed up the repair process.
“The project itself should be running much faster because it is a one-phase approach, rather than two phases, where we were going to be holding the traffic flow,” said Morales, commissioner of public services and utilities.
Repair work is expected to begin in August.
In the meantime, the detour for people to use is routed from Pecks Road to Onota Street, Vin Herbert Boulevard and Valentine Road.
