Motor vehicle inspections are resuming in Massachusetts as of July 24, according to MassDOT. The service had been made unavailable for about five days as part of a global software outage.
The state's registry of motor vehicle's continues to work with its vendor, OPUS, and inspection sites with remaining issues, but the registry reports most inspection stations are now back on line.
The RMV is also giving vehicle owners who need re-tests on failed inspections more time to get them following the outage from July 19 - 23.
Spectrum News 1 spoke with James Dunn at his shop, Jim & Son's Auto Repair, in Worcester on Tuesday while his inspection services were down. Dunn said drivers were coming in daily to get new inspection stickers, but he'd have to turn them away along with every shop in the state.
"When you do, I would say an average of 25 stickers a day and you do none, you know, it takes a hit," Dunn said. "The financial part of it. We just had a gentleman come by and say they are hoping to have it on tomorrow, but they don't know that would be Wednesday. That's about it."
As the RMV continues to work with inspection locations still having issues, MassDOT advises visiting mavehiclecheck.com for a station near you. You can also give your local station a call before heading there if you need to get your car inspected.
