Vance, a Marine Corps veteran, is only 39, making him the first millennial to be named to a presidential ticket.
For Massachusetts Republican National Committee member Ron Kaufman, who has been on the committee for 38 years and is serving as general chair of the convention, thinks selecting a young candidate is an excellent way to appeal to young voters.
“I think it's a good pick. This is a generational change,” said Kaufman. “I think with, with, JD, Donald Trump, there was a very bright, articulate, smart man who's younger. And I think the American public will think that's a really good idea for the vice president.”
On Monday night, the former president attended the convention, and it was his first public appearance since the assassination attempt on Saturday. Kaufman described what it was like to be in the room when the crowd realized Trump was there.
“It was incredible. I've never quite experienced anything like it,” he said. “I've never experienced anything so dramatic, but people, it really touch their souls.”
As the convention continues, Kaufman is feeling more confident about the momentum the party is gaining. He believes that it will continue to help all republicans on the ballot in Massachusetts.
“The American public are going to overwhelmingly select Donald Trump again, and that will help us even in that even in Massachusetts, help us down ballot.”
