WORCESTER, Mass. – Spectrum, News 1 spoke with a retired Massachusetts State Police detective about the attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump.

John Fraioli spent nearly 30 years with the State Police and said anytime the Secret Service was in town, they would work with local and state law enforcement.

Fraioli said there may have been some sort of miscommunication because typically, an area around someone like Trump would have been more secure.

"You would have like 200 yards that would be in the inner perimeter, whether it was just outside of where people were being screened to come in. It's still too close to where the stage was set up,” said Fraioli. “So still, it's hard for me to wrap my head around how someone could get up on the roof and have a clean shot at something, you know, approximately 200 yards away. It could have even been closer than that."

Fraioli was assigned to the Executive Protection Unit for former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Lt. Gov. Tim Murray.
