WORCESTER, Mass. - The city of Worcester and it’s partners are working to make sure people have a place to cool off during this week's hot weather.
Health and Human Services Commissioner Dr. Mattie Castiel said the city is checking in with people in encampments and bringing them water and clothing. Dr. Castiel said they're encouraging people to visit place with air conditioning like the library, senior center, and Salvation Army. She said the city is doing everything it can to be proactive.
"I know our outreach workers, when they go, they've been going out with their vans and they let people sit in their vans just to cool them off and they're in the van," Dr. Castiel said. "So people come in who are in encampments who don't want to go in somewhere. They'll do those kinds of things."
Dr. Castiel also recommends staying hydrated and finding shade if air conditioning is not available.
