WORCESTER, Mass. - Bank of America's Student Leaders program is an eight-week paid summer internship where students get the chance to get familiar with the ins and outs of the nonprofit they work with and ultimately see what it's like to be able to make change at a national level.

Rising seniors Ansh Nandurbarkar of Shrewsbury High and Dea Kamberi of Doherty High School are this summer's local Student Leaders.

This year marks the 20th year for the program nationally and the fifth year of having it in the Worcester area where the Student Leaders work at the Boys & Girls Club.

The eight-week internship is capped off with a one-week leadership training program down in Washington D.C. where Nandurbarkar and Kamberi will get a chance to see Congress work in action and meet other Student Leaders from across the country.

They both say they're looking forward to the trip, and for now, they're enjoying their time helping out at the Boys & Girls Club.

"Overall it's such a great experience," Nandurbarkar said. "I've been working on the corporate side, helping out with the recent ARPA grant that's been taking place in the Boys & Girls Club. And I've also been working on the operational side with the kids. I've been handing out lunch, helping the kids, supervising the kids. It's, overall, been such a great experience."

"I'm really excited to meet everybody else that got in," Kamberi said. "Seeing their stories, how they interacted or how they got in, and really what they've done for their community. Because, clearly, everybody that got in has a strong passion to help and change the world. And seeing them all in one place, doing all these team building exercises, visiting Capitol Hill, talking to our legislators is going to be a really wonderful experience for both me and everybody else."

"I think the program is one of those programs where we actually take students and kind of uplift them, aspire, get them the opportunity to show some change in the community and help them develop their leadership skills," Bank of America SVP Market Executive John Tanacea said. "Not only locally but also eventually, hopefully on a national level."

Both Nandurbarkar and Kamberi applied to become Student Leaders during this past school year.

Bank of America said they have worked with more than 4,500 students and hundreds of nonprofits natioanlly since starting the program in 2004.
