NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – No Paws Left Behind is a nonprofit animal shelter they say is continuing Eleanor Sonsini's legacy of reuniting strays, or finding them a new home, after the shelter named in her honor closed last year.

No Paws Left Behind is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming dogs and cats in the area.

The nonprofit comes after the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter closed in Pittsfield last year. Fundraising efforts after the closure resulted in a new no-kill shelter.

The nonprofit will be operating out of the city’s municipal building in partnership with the city’s animal control.

They will be taking care of stray animals brought in until they are released back to their families, or will put them up for adoption if not claimed within 10 days.

“We’ll do adoptions, we will take in strays. So if strays never end up going home, we will take them in and adopt them out to families,” said Executive Director/Manager Noelle Howland.

No Paws Left Behind is still putting finishing touches on the building, but will have a grand opening celebration July 6 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 59 Hodges Cross Road.
