PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Humane Society is reminding people to keep their pets cool this week and all summer long.
On hot days, they recommend keeping animals indoors if possible, making sure they’re well-groomed and providing pets with a lot of water to stay hydrated.
If your pet needs exercise, the Humane Society advises you take them outdoors when the sun isn’t as strong.
“We recommend very early in the morning 5, 6 o'clock hour, before the sun has a chance to get out and really warm up or late evening well after the sun sets, where the pavement is gonna be much cooler for your pet to walk on,” said Berkshire Humane Society Executive Director John Perreault.
Another important reminder: the pavement on roads or driveways along with the inside of a car can heat up fast and exceed the outside air temperature, so they ask you to make sure not to leave pets in a vehicle in this weather.
