WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester seniors helped ensure military personnel feel supported and appreciated this week with some hand-written thank you cards.

Some of the seniors are veterans themselves, and said it’s important to do something to show military personnel they’re cared for and loved.

Card writers shared their own stories as well. The organization Senior Helpers worked on the project and went to several facilities in Worcester with senior living.

“I’m very proud that I’m a veteran, that I served my country, and I provided protection to them,” one card writer said. “I actually feel very proud. That’s all there is to it.”

“Even as you talk to them and they share the stories with you and how proud they are that they served, sometimes we forget,” Rosca Sasu of Senior Helpers said. “So it’s [important] to remind ourselves what this means to them. And even as they age, [they should] continue to share the stories while they were on duty.”

Senior Helpers works to help seniors age in place, and make sure they’re active, engaged and healthy.

The cards will be sent nationwide to active duty military over the coming weeks.
