Developers in Worcester celebrated the groundbreaking for what they describe as a newer type of living experience in the city. United Group Developers put shovels to dirt at the Arbella At Bramble Hill, a 55-plus, active adult community.

It's located on 17 acres of what was once the historic Higgins Estate on Salisbury Street.

The property will feature 123 one and two-bedroom apartments.

"We chose this area because of demand. We looked at the demographics. There's over 35,000 seniors in a five mile ring in this area. There is really no product that we do. This will be our 21st 55-plus active adult deal," United Group President and CEO Michael Uccelini said.

"Senior housing is needed. As people transition to this property from the Higgins Estate to 123 apartments, people are going to be transitioning from their homes and moving in here," Worcester Mayor Joe Petty said.

The project is expected to be completed by spring of 2025.
