The Red Tee Tournament is an all-women’s golf event.
It benefits Berkshire United Way and the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center. The funds raised go directly to programs helping women and children.
Jen Glockner organized it after her experiences in playing in tournaments around the county.
“There are so many great charities and nonprofits in the Berkshires that put on these golf tournaments. But I found that there were not a lot of women at the tournament, so if my friends and I were a team of four women, it was unusual and people were like, ‘oh wow, good for you,’” said Glockner, chair of the Red Tee Committee.
This led to her and some friends to come up with the tournament named for tees on golf courses that women traditionally play from. The inaugural event raised $25,000.
“Let’s do something for all women and this is how it all came about, the Red Tee Tournament. The red tee pays homage to the tees that are traditional women’s tees they used to be red tees. That’s changed a little bit over the years, but it pays homage to the red tees,” said Glockner.
There were raffle tickets and even an "apology" donation jar to encourage women to not apologize as much.
Teams played 18 holes at the Berkshire Hills Country Club and had a lot of fun cheering each other on.
“It’s a day to come together and say "go girls, like go women, women rule the world and women empowerment,'” Glockner said.
