WORCESTER, Mass. — The Tahanto and West Boylston softball teams will look to advance to the MIAA Division 5 quarterfinal round today.
Tahanto (12-6), the No. 8 seed in the bracket, hosts Maynard (14-7), the No. 9 seed, at 2:30 today. The Stags advanced Monday with an 8-1 win over Mystic Valley.
West Boylston (16-5), meanwhile, faces a tough test at 4 p.m. today when it meets 17-2 Lee out of Berkshire County. West Boylston reached the round of 16 with a 6-5 win over Westport on Monday in the first round of the tournament.
Tahanto and Mystic Valley were scoreless through three innings, but in the bottom of the fourth, the Stags offense went off for five runs to take control. Abby Bidinger and Rylee Walton had two hits and two RBI each for the victors.
West Boylston trailed for most of the game against Westport, but the Lions took control in the fifth. Maddie Pitro's RBI to left center scored Abby Falk to put West Boylston ahead 5-4.
