WORCESTER, Mass. - The city of Worcester paid tribute to Korean War veterans with a wreath-laying ceremony Monday.
The city's Korean War Memorial honors the nearly 200 soldiers from Worcester County who died in the war.
The memorial is on the corner of Foster and Front streets and features a black granite wall inscribed with the 191 soldiers' names.
"Freedom is Not Free" is inscribed on the monument.
Veteran Paul Davis said it's nice to see so many people show up to Monday’s ceremony.
"Definitely so pleased that so many people do care enough about service people, and so forth, that have come and those that are gone that they show up here, in spite of what might have been really bad weather,” said veteran Paul Davis. “So, I’m lucky I have today with these people and the memories of all our buddies and my buddies over here from the post. I think that's the important thing, I have their memories with me."
The monument also features a bronze statue of a Korea-era American GI and a Korean child.
They represent the 100,000 orphans saved by the soldiers during and after the war.
