WORCESTER, Mass. - A big night at Polar Park Thursday as Thrive Support & Advocacy hosted their prom for all ages fundraiser.
The event is for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. More than 200 adults attended with their caregivers, dancing the night away while enjoying food and music.
The night kicked off with a red carpet where guests could pose for photos. The organiization's resident and CEO Sean Rose said it's the best event they host all year.
"These folks that we serve have not had the same rite of passage that you and I may have had at a prom, and many of them had a really bad experience or a traumatic experience or just didn't go at all,” Rose said. “Thrive supports these individuals through the lifespan. So, from 22 on, you're going to see people on the dance floor between the ages of 22 and 90."
This is the third year Thrive Support & Advocacy has hosted the event. It's the organization's anchor fundraiser to support their social and recreational programs for youth and adults.
