WORCESTER, Mass. - Saturday was the first ever Massachusetts Agriculture in Action Expo. The event was hosted at the College of the Holy Cross.

The event was a celebration of people working in the farming sector, highlighting innovative practices and the different types of produce we eat. The day was filled with workshops and informational sessions.

Organizers also put on a number of demonstrations, including a hands-on look at different soils, how to plant seeds, reduce the risk of mosquitoes and properly gardening your vegetables.

"We really want people to understand how important agriculture is to everyday life, how they can be a part of it and how they can provide food for themselves and support our local farmers," said Christopher Szkutak, vice president for the Massachusetts State Grange, who organized the event. "It's more important than ever. I think COVID really showed people when there were food shortages and different things like that how important it was to get their food locally, and to grow it themselves."

The Massachusetts State Grange said they are an organization with an emphasis on agriculture, community service and family. It was founded in 1873, and encourages agricultural and environmental sustainability and community service.
