BERKSHIRE COUNTY, Mass. – The Massachusetts Environmental Police want to remind you about the importance of life jackets.

It’s one of the most important things you can have when out on the water this season. 

Environmental police say you should make sure life jackets are in good condition and in an easily accessible place if there is an emergency. 

“Having them readily accessible if you’re in an instance when there’s inclement weather, or heavy boat traffic, throw it on. You’re not going to hurt anybody, you still look cool, just like wearing a helmet riding a bike,” said Officer Jonathan Kolis.

The environmental police also want to remind you to make sure it is U.S. Coast Guard-approved and the right size. They say many people don’t think there are life jackets for infants or dogs, but they can come in handy if an accident occurs.
