BERKSHIRE COUNTY, Mass. – The Massachusetts Environmental Police offers a free in-person course on boat laws and safety throughout the state.
The NASBLA-certified course is open to ages 12 and above. It will take you through all safety aspects before operating a boat or any other water vessel.
At the end of this course, participants will receive a safety certificate, the same certificate needed for 12–17-year-old’s to operate a boat without adult supervision.
“This class is great because it encompasses everything. It goes from, you know, the flat part of the boat to the bow. We explain everything about vessels, the laws, all different safety aspects, all the equipment, safe operation. And this class is recognized nationally, so if you come take this class in Massachusetts for free, they’ll accept it at any state,” said Lt. Tara Carlow.
