WORCESTER, Mass. - A Worcester restaurant hosted a far from normal lunch Saturday — it was actually pretty super.
Ava's superhero luncheon was held at Pepe's Italian Restaurant Saturday afternoon. Ava is a local five-year-old battling leukemia. Spectrum News has covered Ava's story before, when Gerardo's Bakery in West Boylston prepared a Taylor Swift-themed gathering for her earlier this year.
The fun, family friendly event was for a very serious cause, and visitors showed their support in the fight against cancer.
Ava's family said the theme of super heroes came easy to them, because battling such a horrible disease at a young age makes Ava one of the strongest superheroes there is.
"It's super special," Ava's mother Angela Blazis said. "I can't even really put it into words. This might not be something that helps our family, but it's going to help the next family, it's going to help the next child diagnosed."
Blazis said Ava's favorite superheroes are The Incredibles, from the popular Pixar movie. All proceeds from Saturday's luncheon will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of team Ava.
