UXBRIDGE, Mass. - A teacher from Uxbridge who had the opportunity to experience Monday’s eclipse from the sky is sharing her journey with Spectrum News 1.
Amanda Gallerani flew with the Civil Air Patrol out of Worcester to Maine.
She was one of seven teachers from Massachusetts who got to go.
She said it was an incredible experience and was able to send pictures and messages to her students live while it was happening.
“It's incredible, so you could see the entire atmosphere start to go dark and the stars start to come out and then you could see total darkness” said Gallerani. “I got to see Baily's beads, I got to see the diamond ring effect. We did a couple of science experiments up there."
"We saw red and green start to change colors, which is pretty cool. I brought some skittles with me to show that effect, and then I dropped them but I got to see it before I dropped them and record it," she continued. "We also did some UV and glow in the dark science experiments up there, so we got to see the difference in the beads color change and then the temperature we saw it drop. We were about 4°C and then at total totality we were at about -2°C.”
The Taft Early Learning Center teacher said she's excited to bring what she learned to her students in the classroom and implement it into future lessons.
