WORCESTER, Mass. - A fan favorite food choice at Polar Park is the hot dogs at Coney Island, and they're preparing for their fourth season in the ballpark.

What You Need To Know

  • This season marks the fourth year in Worcester for the WooSox, and the fourth year for Coney Island as a vendor at Polar Park

  • The local hot dog vendors serve about 1,000 dogs a game, according to COO Solon Kelleher

  • Coney Island has been in Worcester for 106 years

“We ordered 80 cases of dogs for our first delivery," Solon Kelleher said. "Hopefully that'll get us through at least the seventh inning stretch, we’ll see.”

Coney Island is stocked up on dogs and ready for another season of serving baseball fans.

“We're going to be having fun this season. It's our fourth time around, our third time in the stand. And by the end of the season, we'll have served hot dogs at 300 games at Polar Park," Kelleher said. "We do about a thousand dogs a game. So, at some point we'll have served our 300,000th dog at Polar Park.”

When the WooSox came to town four years ago and Coney Island joined their roster of vendors, Kelleher said they weren’t sure if people were going to want their hot dogs outside of the classic restaurant on Southbridge Street. But he said Coney Island discovered what Kelleher calls a special union.

“What you have at Coney Island stand at Polar Park is a union of the old and the new," Kelleher said. "You have old Worcester, Coney Island, that's been around for 106 years coming together with Polar Park, it's our fourth year here. And you're just making good memories, serving good food, having some fun over baseball.”

And for anyone planning to visit Polar Park or Coney Island for the first time this season, Kelleher said to keep it classic with your order.

“If this is your first time trying to Coney Island hot dog, then you have to go with the Coney Dog," Kelleher said. "And that's our chili sauce, homemade secret recipe, chopped onions, yellow mustard, steamed bun, Kayem hot dog made right in Chelsea, Massachusetts. You can't beat it.”
