WORCESTER, Mass. - The Wachusett girls basketball team beat Springfield Central 57-50 in the MIAA Division 1 state semifinals on Tuesday night, advancing to Friday night's state championship game against Bishop Feehan.

Wachusett, with seven seniors on the roster, led 23-9 after one quarter and didn't look back.

Mary Gibbons, who is playing at the U.S. Naval Academy next year, had a game-high 22 points for the Mountaineers, while sophomore Jaelynn Scott filled out the stat sheet with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Liz Cain had 9 points; all of them were clutch and seemed to stop a Springfield Central run.

Wachusett and Bishop Feehan tip off for the D-1 crown at 7:45 p.m. Friday at Lowell's Tsongas Arena.

In the boys bracket, Millbury dropped a 67-65 Division 4 semifinal heartbreaker to Wareham. Millbury used a furious fourth-quarter comeback to force overtime, and stopped Millbury's run at the buzzer in OT.

Kenny Donnelly had 23 points for Millbury, while his younger brother Jimmer had 16; Tyler Vaccaro had 10 for the Woolies.
