HOLDEN, Mass. - A local car dealership is celebrating 100 years in business.
Sunnyside Ford in Holden first opened as a garage servicing Model Ts in 1923, and became a dealership in 1924. President Dan Harrington said the third generation business has changed a lot in the last century. He said now, a lot of car shopping is done online.
In recent years, the CEO of Ford has talked about moving to fixed prices, getting rid of dealer inventory and turning existing dealerships into high-quality service centers.
"We're hoping to get more inventory so we can bring the people back in the showroom to look at our vehicles” said Harrington. “But a lot of people are looking online and deciding what they want. If they find what they want on our website then they come down and buy it."
Harrington said one question they're asked frequently is where the name of the dealership comes from. He said their original location in Holden was on Main Street, where the Holden Police Station currently sits, across from Sunnyside Avenue.
