MILLBURY, Mass. — It was a sweep in the Woolie swamp Wednesday night, as the Millbury boys basketball team beat New Heights Charter 55-50 and the Millbury girls basketball team beat Hampshire 56-33, with both teams moving onto the MIAA Division 4 quarterfinals.

The boys team came out of the gate flying and red hot from beyond the arc, sinking several 3-pointers in the first quarter on their way to scoring 28 points in the first quarter alone. It got closer in the second half, but Millbury held on with great support from a standing-room-only crowd.

Tyler Vaccaro led Millbury with 15 points while Anthony Phillipo and Kenny Donnelly each had 10. Millbury (19-5) will meet 21-1 Manchester-Essex, the No. 5 seed, in a 6 p.m. Saturday quarterfinal at Sutton.

On the girls side, Millbury started slowly against Hampshire but then exploded offensively, shutting out Hampshire in the second quarter while scoring 17 points for themselves en route to the win.

Millbury was led by Ashleigh Lagor, who had 24 points and Mila Nikiforow, who had 15 points. Millbury (15-7) next plays at No. 1 seed Cathedral (16-5) at 6 p.m. Friday in the quarterfinal round.
