Gov. Maura Healey was at the White House this week for the National Governors Association winter meeting, where she's said she pushed President Joe Biden to help the state with its influx of migrants.
Healey said she's still advocating for federal funding to lighten the financial burden the state has taken on with housing and supporting new arrivals. She said she's been able to connect with Biden during this trip.
“I also had a chance to talk with President Biden about his plan that he put forward,” Healey said. “It is the right plan, it would provide border security, it would help us with that issue tightening the border.
“It would help us with intercepting fentanyl, which is a big issue in our state, and, importantly, it would provide money to Massachusetts for what we’ve done to house migrants, in addition to getting them work permits and authorizations.”
Healey also led a review on cyber resilience and AI at the meetings in Washington this week. She is the co-chair of a bipartisan working group on cybersecurity.
