Kansas City Chiefs defesnive coordinator and Grafton, Mass. native Steve Spagnuolo is going for his fourth Super Bowl ring on Sunday when the Chiefs battle the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

Spagnuolo said no matter how high he goes or where he is, his hometown in central Massachusetts is never far from his heart.

"It's been a long time, but I still have family in the area," Spagnuolo said. "Two brothers, my mother is in that area, so I don't get back there nearly as much as I'd like to or I used to, but I'm tied to there emotionally. I stay in touch obviously through a close friend, Mike Conway, and I'm always checking up on Grafton to see how they're doing sports-wise, certainly football.

"But I miss it a lot, it's where I grew up, where it all began. Playing football there for Mr. Egsegian, he was a great one.  I think it was really playing for him all those years, and the person he was, that kind of led my towards coaching."

Sunday will be the sixth time Spagnuolo has coached in the Super Bowl as an assistant. He said having that experience going into such a big game is an advantage.

"There's elements of this game that if you haven't been associated with it, kind of jump on you," Spagnuolo said. "First of all, from the time you leave warm ups and go back into the locker room, there's a long stretch there. You come out on the field there's a long stretch before you even play a down. We talk to our guys often about, don't play the game before it begins, or you'll use up all your energy."

Spagnuolo served as defensive coordinator for the New York Giants when they beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. He won two more rings with the Chiefs, also as defensive coordinator, in Super Bowls LIV and LVII.
