PITTSFIELD, Mass. - February is national Adopt a Rabbit Month, and the Berkshire Humane Society has a couple of bunnies ready for a new home.

Rabbits Gus and Olivia are at BHS, and looking for a new family to hop around with.

Because rabbits require more care than many people think, they are often surrendered back to shelters. Rabbits are the third-most surrendered animals at shelters.

“People don’t realize that they are in shelter environments frequently due to people not realizing how much care and responsibility is involved with a rabbit,” said Nikki Kellog, marketing specialist for Berkshire Humane Society..

For anyone ready to put in the work, the shelter says it’s easy fall in love with having a pet rabbit in the house.

“They are great companions, they are so fun, they become a real member of your family just like a cat or dog would," said Amy Booth, who has rescued a couple of rabbits herself. "You’ll never have a day when you don’t laugh when you have a bunny in your house with their antics and their playing. They’re just really great pets to have.”

People interested in adopting a rabbit can visit Gus and Olivia at Berkshire Humane Society and get more information on how to care for them on the shelter's website.
