WORCESTER, Mass. - Some folks in Central Massachusetts got outside to enjoy all things winter this weekend.

Saturday on the Common, the Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District hosted their Winter Festival. The afternoon featured fun, winter-themed activities like skating on the oval, a 25-foot alpine slide, and even some arts and crafts. It was a great day for the winter festival, as the city was blessed with seasonable temperatures and sunny skies. The goal was to get people out in the city during what is usual a rather quiet time.

"Our whole purpose was to bring people to downtown Worcester to have a great time during the winter," said Evelyn Darling, executive director at Downtown Worcester BID. "It's cold, it's dark, so we wanted to give people a chance to get out of their house, and do something fun with their kids."

"I think it's a really great event that brings a lot of different people from different backgrounds together," said festival-goer Jasmine Conde. "These people around me are people I've never seen before, but it's good to be able to enjoy something together with them as a community."

There were even some really cool ice sculptures on display. Organizers shut down Front Street for the alpine slide. The Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District is a nonprofit representing property owners in Downtown Worcester.
