The Empty Bowls Project is a worldwide effort where people raise money for food related charities to feed the hungry in their communities.
Pittsfield High School art teacher Lisa Ostellino let her students create, glaze, and fire the bowls to raise money for the Christian Center.
“We just let the kids go free for all and be creative with all of their ideas,” Ostellino said.
Members of the community can make a donation and take home a bowl, along with a to-go cup of soup made from the Pittsfield High School culinary department. The students made around 40 bowls in total.
“I think it’s really important," said art student Gavin Wheeler. "It not only helps us, it helps other people.”
Many students were excited to work toward this project and be able to make something neat for their community.
“This is a fun thing for everybody to be a part of and take part in, and it’s a sweet community here at PHS and a sweet community here in Pittsfield," said art student Maddaline Penna. "And we just want to show our love."
The "Love of Art" exhibit will be showcasing the students’ senior portfolios, paintings, drawings, photography and ceramic works.
The community can see the students' art and bowls Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts building. Their art will stay up for one week.
