WORCESTER, Mass. - Sunday's wintry mix changed to mainly snow a bit earlier than anticipated, and plows were out early keeping roads safe.

Plow drivers with Central Mass Landscapes are in charge of keeping industrial and medical facilities clear.

Owner Chris Duncan said at the height of the snowfall, roughly 40 to 50 employees will be out with shovels, plows and other equipment.

During the summer, while their landscaping work is busy, employees are also making sure all their snow removal equipment is ready for the winter, making it a year-round job.

Duncan said storms like this can sometimes be hard to predict.

“The difficulty is managing the changes in a forecast that can come out of nowhere,” Duncan said. “In more recent storms, we have had snow switch to freezing rain, shifting back to snow so it creates a bit of a challenge for us on the ground with everything open. With this forecast, it may not pan out to be big snow totals, and hopefully their are no curve balls so we can get everything cleaned up in the morning."

Although it's a lot of work, Duncan said some employees actually look forward to this time of year.
