FanDuel is offering free financial counseling to Massachusetts residents in an effort to promote responsible gaming practices.
FanDuel and Operation HOPE are partnering for the "Hope Inside Program." People in Massachusetts will be able to meet with financial well-being coaches either virtually or in-person for free financial health sessions.
Coaches will offer the tools needed to help people build savings, improve credit scores and decrease debt. They'll also counsel people on how to manage entertainment spending.
"It's very important because sometimes residents and people in states where sports betting is legal will overspend their budget and really start to get into problems,” said John Battista, vice president of partner success at Operation HOPE. “When they don't plan, they usually fail, and we don't want that to happen with any resident in the state of Massachusetts.
“So, what our coaches will do is they'll provide a budget and have education in entertainment spending inside of that budget and only ask residents of the state to stay within that budget."
Retail sports betting launched in Massachusetts in January 2023, and online betting followed in March.
