North Adams, Mass. – Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day of remembrance and service at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where volunteers gathered to help distribute food, make cards and put together blankets to give out to the community.

Volunteers were also making mittens for schools, where students may not have any mittens or gloves of their own.

"It's a great way to celebrate Martin Luther King, and also because it's a great way to help kids that need stuff," said volunteer Ivelys Carter.

The MLK Day of Service Committee hosts the event every year.

Members said they are always looking for volunteers from the community to join them.
