PITTSFIELD, Mass. - Parts of western Massachusetts already saw snow flurries Friday as DPW crews prepare for even more snow this weekend.

Pittsfield DPW officials say they’re expecting about a foot of snow. Crews spent much of the day Friday getting materials and equipment ready. They have two teams who will work twelve-hour shifts, plus contractors.

The city has 450 lane miles of road to maintain, and they're hopeful to have everything cleaned up by Sunday night unless the forecast changes.

"Hopefully our first shift can handle it, stay with it,” said highway superintendent Vin Barbarotta. “Our noontime shift that will show up Sunday hopefully can clean it up and then we'll have a backup crew after that if there's any removal or more plowing to be done. We'll be in it fighting it 24/7 ‘til we get it. A storm of this magnitude is usually a day and a half to get it cleaned up and the roads done."

DPW crews will pre-treat roads throughout the city Saturday afternoon, ahead of the storm.
