WORCESTER, Mass. - The North High boys basketball team unveiled their state title banner Wednesday night before going on to defeat inter-city rival Doherty 77-44.

It was an emotional night as North also honored Carl-Hens Beliard, a senior on last year's state championship team who was shot and killed last fall, before the game. The team wore shirts with Beliard's picture for warmups and the pre-game ceremonies, which included everyone in attendance saying "Carl Beliard" out loud in tribute to him, followed by a moment of silence. Head Coach Al Pettway also gave Beliard's mom, Altagrace, a basketball with his picture on it and signed by all of the North High team.

When the game got underway, North showed that they are once again a team to be reckoned with this year. Teshaun Steele had 18 points and 11 rebounds to led the way for North, followed by Joe Okla, who had 17 points and 6 rebounds, and Amir Jenkins, who had 17 points. Doherty was led by Josiah Reyes, who had 15 points.
