WORCESTER, Mass. – For those traveling by plane this holiday season, it could be a difficult experience.

AAA is predicting airports will be the busiest they have ever been for this travel period. In total, they expect roughly 7.5 million air travelers, which would surpass 2019's record of 7.3 million.

At the Worcester Airport Friday, there was a steady stream of flight-goers coming and going, and despite the warnings, many said their travels were going smoothly.

"I went from D.C. to LaGuardia, and then LaGuardia to here,” said Liz Turgeon, who was traveling from Fairfax, Virginia. “Washington D.C. was really great, I left really early this morning. I got to the airport around 6:30, my flight was at 8:40, and with TSA and everything, it went really smooth for once, so that was wonderful. LaGuardia was very crowded, but we left on time and actually landed a little early."

"Honestly it was pretty smooth, smoother than I anticipated,” said Michelle Tweedie from Washington, D.C. “Lines were long, so I had to stand for a while, but we were able to make it through. TSA was really smooth this time too."

AAA also says the average ticket price is slightly lower than last year. On top of driving and air travel, more than 4 million Americans are expected to travel by bus, train or cruise during the holidays.
