Former Holy Cross football head coach Bob Chesney was formally introduced as the new head coach of James Madison football this week at a press conference.

In his career, Chesney has won at three different levels of college football - Division III at Salve Regina, Division II at Assumption and FCS at Holy Cross. Now, he is taking the next step up to the top level of college football, FBS, with the Dukes.

At his introductory press conference, Chesney said he knows he's ready for the challenge.

"What makes me ready for this is the fact that I did not coach FCS football as an FCS coach," Chesney said. "I did not just go on and say, 'this is just FCS football, let's run it that way.' I spent many trips, many hours, many dollars, meeting with NFL programs and FBS programs, and when you look into how our recruiting is done, our sports science is done, our practices are done, our schematics are done, the overall run of the program is much more like an NFL program than even an FBS program, and that, ultimately, is what my goal was."

Chesney had been with Holy Cross since 2018, winning five Patriot League titles and guiding the Crusaders to a 44-21 record during his tenure.
