The Rolling Stones are going back on tour in North America next year and the legendary rock band will be making a stop in Massachusetts when they play at Gillette Stadium.
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are familiar with the area, as the Rolling Stones took over Worcester for a night in 1981. They played an intimate concert at Sir Morgan’s Cove on Green Street under the alias of "The Cockroaches."
Bob Goodell is the regional vice president of Cumulus Media. He was a 21-year-old working for radio station WAAF at the time, and he reminisced on how the show came to be.
“They had been rehearsing at Longview Farms out in North Brookfield for a couple of months,” Goodell said. “WAAF, some our staff – not me, I can’t take credit for that – but we were aware that they were out there and there was an implication that they might do something in exchange for the radio station kind of helping to keep it quiet, and it ended up being this show.”
The Rolling Stones will take the stage at Gillette Stadium on May 30. Tickets went on sale Wednesday.
