WORCESTER, Mass. - The Uxbridge High School field hockey team made some more history Saturday, winning the program's third-straight state championship in convincing fashion. The Spartans controlled the bulk of the play in a 4-0 win over Monomoy in the Division IV title game at WPI's H. Carr Alumni Field.
The game featured two teams loaded with underclassmen and could act as a preview of future state finals.
Uxbridge’s Julianna Casucci opened the scoring with a backhand shot for a goal. The sophomore gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead. Casucci tallied again in the second quarter, blasting a shot for her second goal which gave Uxbridge a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Spartans defense was stout, stifling the chances Monomoy did have throughout the game and protecting their talented goalie Julia Brynn Okenquist.
Uxbridge added to its lead in the third quarter when Casucci set up Ava Rosborough. The eighth grader delivered to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead. Rosborough would also score the game's final goal in the fourth.
