WORCESTER, Mass. - With the holidays fast approaching, a local organization is asking for help brightening the lives of seniors who may not have someone to spend them with.

Elder Services of Worcester began its #WooCares4U campaign during the pandemic, asking folks to write cards to older, isolated adults. It was such a success the organization has since made it an annual tradition.

Cards are delivered through the Meals on Wheels program, which serves more than 2,000 local seniors per day.

Director of Operations Amy Bullett said everyone from high school athletes in Worcester to people as far away as Colorado are getting involved, and you can too.

“It's so important," Bullett said. "For some of our clients who receive Meals on Wheels, the drivers could be the only person they see for a week or two. To have that meal delivered, and then that special card from someone that they might not know thinking about them during the holiday season...it really, really means a lot.”

Bullett asks people to sign their first name only, make the card as happy and cheerful as you can, and send them in to Elder Services of Worcester, located at 67 Millbrook Street.

The cards should also be legible, non-denominational, and start with a simple, generic phrase like 'Dear Friend', or 'Hello Neighbor'. Envelopes are allowed, but leave them unsealed so ESWA volunteers can screen the cards.

You can share your act of kindness on social media and tag @ESWAorg or use the hashtag #WooCares4U.

You can send cards in any time until Jan. 5.
