WORCESTER, Mass. - The municipal elections are complete more than 24,500 voters cast ballots in Worcester. The city clerk's office reported voter turnout was almost 22%, which is a more than 5% increase from the 2021 election.
"Voters have more options to vote than ever before," said deputy city clerk Clare Robbins. "Between vote by mail, early voting in-person, absentee voting, voting on election day, there are more options than ever before. Some of these methods of voting, and different methods of voting, are why we're seeing some of the higher turnout. We also had schools closed yesterday, we saw a lot of families making a day of going voting."
Worcester Mayor Joe Petty was elected to a seventh term, and two new city councilors and several new school committee members were voted into office.
In Chicopee, the city said more than 21% of voters participated, a large increase from 12% in 2021. Pittsfield's turnout was 31%, which was a drop from the 42% the city had during its last mayoral race in 2019.
